Fair Housing Coach Wins Best Newsletter Award
Congratulations to Carol Johnson Perkins, Esq., the editor of Fair Housing Coach! The National Association of Real Estate Editors (NAREE) has awarded Fair Housing Coach the Best Newsletter in its annual journalism competition. The NAREE program recognizes excellence in reporting, writing, and editing stories about residential and commercial real estate.
Award winners were selected by a panel of expert judges from the E. W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. A record number of entries from professional journalists across the U.S. were received this year.
Judges based their decision on three recent Fair Housing Coach issues that covered:
• Recognizing the rights and unique disability-related needs of military service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan;
• Complying with fair housing laws when advertising units for rent, particularly on the Internet; and
• Understanding the rights and special needs of aging baby boomers to avoid discrimination claims based particularly on age, disability, and sexual orientation.
Fair Housing Coach is a monthly newsletter that landlords and property managers can use to train their staffs so that they remain in compliance with federal and state fair housing laws and avoid costly discrimination suits. Each issue contains a Coach’s Quiz, along with answers and plain-English explanations.
